Boston Celtics look set to welcome the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, June 16th, 2022, at the TD Garden for a crunch Game 6 that can decide the winner of this season’s NBA at 9:00 PM ET.
Golden State Warriors lead the series 3-2 with two games to go. If GSW wins the next game, they will be champions of the 2021-2022 NBA Season. However, it is not as easy as it sounds on paper.
Game number 5 showed that Boston were lacking a little bit of quality on the ball on that particular day. Boston actually started the series with a win over Golden State even with the performance of Steph Curry. GSW won the second game, the Celtics won the third, and GSW won the 4th and 5th games.
As they enter Game 6, Boston will be looking to stop GSW win by any means. If GSW wins, the title winners will already be decided.
A Review of Game 5
As both teams headed into Game 5, the series was drawn 2-2. It took some fantastic display by Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins to clinch the game for GSW.
1st Quarter
The first quarter started with Golden State showing a balanced display between attack and defense. On the other hand, Boston tried to hit 12 3-pointers at the start and missed all of them.
The Celtics were able to neutralize Steph Curry the whole game as he had a low-scoring Game 5. He missed all 9 of his 3-pointer attempts for the first time in his 133 career playoff games. However, he made some contributions with 7 2-pointers, finishing the game with a career-low 16 points.
It was not that Curry had a bad day at the office with all his shots being missed, but the Celtics kept him at bay with great defensive work. They were on him since the first blow of the whistle.
Klay Thompson had a good game and scored 21 points to add to his team’s tally. Boston did an excellent job on Steph Curry but could not control the heat coming from the other Golden State players. Andrew Wiggins came to his team’s rescue when they needed him the most and scored 26 points with 13 rebounds and 2 assists.
2nd Quarter
Boston came out blazing in the second quarter and matched Golden State’s game, losing out on them by just 1 point. However, the Golden State Warriors ended the first half of the game with a difference of 12 points.
This was a credit to the Golden State’s defense for managing to restrict the Boston Celtics to only a 39-point game at the end of the first half, with Golden State going out as first-half winners on a 51-39 scoreline at the break.
3rd Quarter
The 3rd quarter saw a much more energetic Boston come out and rule the court. They outscored the Golden State Warriors by 35 points to 24, which set up an exciting last quarter for the game. The third quarter ended with a total scoreline of 75-74, with Golden State leading by a point.
The Celtics turned on a switch after the first half and scored 10 points in a couple of minutes to take the scoreline to 51-59. Marcus Smart went on a three-pointer spree that took their point tally to 55, going on equal terms with the Golden State Warriors.
Boston went on a three-pointer streak in the third quarter, which saw them get their first lead of the game on 58-55. They would go on to lead the game by 5 points in a matter of minutes, only for the Warriors to respond with a fight of their own.
As the third quarter was about to end, Jordan Poole hit a three-pointer at the end of the buzzer to give the Golden State Warriors a 1-point lead heading into the 4th quarter.
4th Quarter
The Warriors went on a 10-0 streak with no response from the Boston Celtics at the start of the 4th quarter. This gave the Warriors a mental advantage over the Celtics, extending the points gap to 11 points.
This final quarter saw Andrew Wiggins take center stage as he banged another 10 points to help the Warriors secure the win. Although Steph Curry, GSW’s talisman, had an off day, his teammates stepped up and showed basketball fans what it takes to play in the finals.
The game ended with a final score of 104-94 in favor of the Golden State Warriors.
Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors – Game 6 Preview
We should expect both teams to put on their best show as they battle out this crunch game. A defeat for Celtics would mean the end of the road for them, which only gives them more purpose to get the win.
The Golden State Warriors will win the NBA title if they win one out of the two remaining games in the series. That gives them a little bit of ease going into Game 6, but they will be up for the win as taking it to Game 7 would be too much pressure.
Boston’s Jayson Tatum had another great game, scoring 27 points in 44 minutes, with 10 rebounds and 4 assists to his name. Golden State will also be sweating on a good performance by their star player, Steph Curry, in this game.
Boston fans will be hoping for a win to take it to the last game of the series to decide the winner, while Warriors fans will also be hoping for a win to clinch the title by Game 6.
