The boxing world took the internet by storm once again. Canelo Alvarez took on Caleb Plant in Las Vegas to become the undisputed super middleweight champion, the most exciting boxer in the middleweight division at present. The MGM arena hosted the mega event, and the fans got what they wanted to see; high-intensity boxing.

Coming into this matchup, Caleb was undefeated with an impressive record of 27-0 and twelve knockouts. On the other hand, Canelo Alvarez was the more experienced boxer with a boxing record of 56-1-2 and 38 knockouts in his career. So this was the perfect fight to get the fans excited, and it did not disappoint! So here’s how everything went down at the MGM Arena.

The fight rounds

Caleb Plant was the crowd’s favorite. As opposed to the boos Canelo received from the crowd, the arena roared as he entered the ring. Canelo seemed like the underdog, but given his experience, he made sure that did not deter him in any way. Both fighters entered the ring, and the referee blew the whistle for the first round.

Round one went marginally Canelo’s way. He kept himself busy pressing Plant with jabs and some nice combos.

Caleb took a defensive approach in the first round. But he stepped it up in the second round.  Canelo kept pressing him with more shots and got him on the ropes time and again. It was clear that Plant wasn’t doing enough to get the man’s respect and attention. The third round saw Plant land a nice jab an upper hook, but Canelo shrugged it off and kept moving forward. The pace of Canelo was giving Plant a hard time.

In the fourth round, things started to change. Plants movement was good, but Canelo caught him with a good combination and started to go for the body. Although he tried to avoid the shots, he couldn’t counter well, and the sheer velocity of Canelo’s striking was the difference.

Canelo kept hunting him as the fight progressed. By the end of the seventh round, Plant started to tire out, and Canelo took full advantage. But Plant finally landed a left uppercut that caught Canelo’s attention. He backed off, and Plant had him on the ropes. But he wasn’t landing his shots, and it gave time for Canelo to recover, who finished the round with a fantastic combo.

The final rounds saw not much activity from Plant, and Canelo took full advantage of it. In the eleventh round, a devastating left hook and a right-hand shot by Canelo put Plant down. He kept throwing combo after combo until the referee intervened. The fight was over.

The future for Canelo Alvarez

After the impressive TKO win over Caleb Plant, Canelo Alvarez has no retirement plans yet. In the post-match conference, he mentioned that he wants to get back on the ring as early as May 2022. The champ wants to continue boxing, and there’s already a string of potential contenders in line.

The super-middleweight division could be the one he picks next. Some of the top favorite contenders in the division are Ryota Murata, Gennadiy Golovkin, Demetrius Andrade, and Jermall Charlo. Canelo could be fighting one of them in the next fight. But the Light heavy-weight division also looks like a possibility for him. Artur Beterbiev, Dmitry Bivol, Marcus Browne and Joe Smith Jr are the likely contenders in the division.
