The unified lightweight champion boxing fight between Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos has finally hit the ring. Teofimo Lopez put his IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight belts at risk against George Kambosos Jr. It was full of exciting moments.

The main card began at 8 p.m. ET on Nov 27, Saturday, in Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It was quite a night for boxing fans to witness the most anticipated event, exceeding their expectations. Two major cards Lopez and Kambosos fought neck to neck for their title for 12 dynamic and intense rounds.

The underdog from Australia, Kambosos, survived a 10th-round knockdown winning over Lopez. Lopez was scored 114-113, while Kambosos was scored 115-112 and 115-111 respectively by the judges.

When Lopez won over Vasiliy Lomachenko in December 2020, he rose to stardom and was widely recognized as the top 10 best boxer in the world. It was also his career’s best performance. However, his defeat was shocking and a major upset. It was just 13 months ago; he claimed four lightweight titles, which earned him the No. 7 spot in ESPN’s pound-for-pound rankings.

After winning the last night’s title, Kamboosos is now recognized as a top boxing fighter in the most stacked divisions. His victory was beyond anyone’s expectation after fighting 12 rounds against an elite boxer. It was Lopez’s first professional defeat.

At the end of the 12 round fight, both the fighters were transported to a nearby hospital. Lopez had two cuts over both eyes, and his left eye was bloody while Kambosos was hospitalized  for dehydration.
